How to Play Lightning Dice

Lightning Dice 3.jpg

Lightning Dice is a dice game on which players bet on the outcome of a roll of three dice. It’s essentially a new online variation of the classic casino dice game of Sic Bo - with an exciting twist.

Sic Bo, and by extension, Lightning Dice is similar to Roulette in that players bet on a numeric outcome with potentially huge payouts. In fact, the best unboosted odds available in this game is a massive 150:1, much greater than the 35:1 payouts players can get in roulette.

On top of these high potential payouts, during each round of Lightning Dice, a random outcome will be selected to have its odds boosted, which could be any amount up to 1000:1. This is what makes Lightning Dice different to Sic Bo, which does not have boosted numbers.

Here, numbers 5, 6, 8 and 9 are boosted from their usual odds. Watch Us PlayOver on our YouTube channel we play all sorts of casino games but here we have a 10 minute session of us winning big on Lightning Dice.

What is Lightning Dice

Lightning Dice consists of a board layout with 16 spots numbered from 3 to 18, and during each roll you can bet on as many or as few of these that you wish. Once betting has concluded 3 dice will be rolled and their amounts totalled (of course, all rolls on 3 dice will add up to somewhere between 3 and 18, and some numbers are more likely to come up than others). Any bets made on the correct total will be paid out to the odds shown.

How To Play Lightning Dice

Playing Lightning Dice is easy - simply pick a number (or multiple numbers) from 3 to 18 and place a bet on them by selecting the amount you wish to bet and clicking on the numbers you wish to bet on on the board. If your number comes in then you will win at the rate shown on the board.

Remember that each of the outcomes has a different payout amount and house edge (see below) and any of the numbers could randomly be selected to have its odds boosted.

What is the House Edge in Lightning Dice

The exact edge in Lightning dice varies depending on which number you bet on. It ranges from around 25% to 30% on unboosted numbers, though the actual house edge will be better than this due to the random odds boosting that happens during each roll.

Evolution Gaming claims that the random odds boosting brings the RTP to between 96.03% and 96.21% (3.97% - 3.79% house edge) although this is almost impossible to prove as it requires knowledge of how the lightning numbers are selected and Evolution Gaming does not publish that data.

The only thing we can say for sure is that the house edge on Lightning Dice is somewhere lower than 30%.

The table below shows the house edge on each of the different betting options in Lightning Dice.

Winning At Lightning Dice

To win in Lightning Dice you must correctly guess the outcome of the three dice. The odds vary depending on the outcome you have chosen so the amount you could win will vary too. See the table below for info on how likely any outcome is and what the payoff will be if you win. As you would expect the most likely outcomes have the lowest potential return and vice versa.

Take note of the possible outcomes column below. There is only one way to make a 3 or 18 by rolling 3 dice making them extremely unlikely outcomes,  contrast that to 10 or 11 which each have 27 ways to come up; this is why the odds vary so wildly from one number to another.

Lightning Dice Strategy

As Lightning Dice is a pure casino edge game with no element of skill, nothing you do will improve your chances of winning at the game. For us at least, the excitement in this game comes from winning the huge 150:1 or higher bets on the 3 and 18 spots.

For that reason, we always have 3 and 18 covered when we play Lightning Dice, and we also suggest always covering 4 and 17 for the same reason.

When playing Lightning Dice, you should remember that any of the numbers could be randomly selected to have the odds massively boosted, and if it comes in on a number you’ve bet on, you could be in for a huge win as a result.

The numbers 3, 4, 17 and 18 are more likely to be boosted to these astronomical odds, while the others rarely do, so you may wish to place a larger wager on the numbers with the lower odds or just steer clear altogether. As for us, we place the same bet on every number.

Lightning Dice vs Sic Bo

Lightning Dice is essentially a stripped back version of Sic Bo. Instead of having the large Sic Bo layout with 2 dice combinations, Big, Small and Triple betting options, Lightning Dice only shows the numbers from 3 to 18.

Fundamentally the odds are the same in both Sic Bo and Lightning Dice, but you have less options to bet on in Lightning Dice, especially if you like to bet on the triples or if you have a favourite 2 dice combination to bet on. In addition Lightning Dice does reduce the house edge over Sic Bo with its randomly boosted odds.

This is the regular Sic Bo layout as seen in Super Sic Bo.

Where To Play Lightning Dice

As Lightning Dice is an Evolution Gaming property it can be played at any online casino which licenses their games. Our favourites are both Pokerstars and Unibet.

[add something about how it’s online only because of the “lightning” aspect?]

Is Lightning Dice Worth It?

With bets as little as £0.10  it’s easy to play Lightning Dice for a while without spending too much money. As long as you’re not under the impression that you will make money in the long run (as with any casino table game), we think that Lightning Dice is an entertaining way to spend some time gambling, and the boosting function gives it extra suspense.
